Terms of Service

Last updated: August 29, 2026

1. Operator and agreement

These Terms govern access to learn.python.land and the Python Land learning platform (“Service”). The Service is supplied by Erik van Baaren through the Dutch sole proprietorship The Dutch Dev, trading as Python Land and registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 89776232 (EU VAT ID NL002976373B42) (“Python Land”, “we”, “us”). The business is registered near Amsterdam, Netherlands; because the registered office is also a home address, the full address is provided on invoices rather than published on the public website. Contact us through the Python Land contact form.

By creating an account, accessing paid material, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Mandatory rights under applicable consumer law are not excluded or restricted by these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering a contract. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it and that “you” includes that organisation. The Service is not directed to children.

3. The Service

Python Land provides educational articles, courses, quizzes, code editors, saved workspaces, automated grading, in-browser execution, and sandboxed server-side code execution. Published course and lesson content is publicly accessible. Account features, participation, certificates, advertising, AI help, and usage limits differ between anonymous, free, legacy-entitled, staff, and paid accounts.

Course descriptions and feature lists explain the intended content, but they are not a guarantee of a particular learning outcome, qualification, employment result, or uninterrupted feature set. We may improve, replace, or remove content and features while preserving the essential value of an active paid subscription and honoured legacy access, subject to applicable law.

4. Accounts

  • Provide accurate information and keep your email address current.
  • Keep login details confidential and use a strong, unique password.
  • One account is for one person unless we expressly agree otherwise.
  • Notify us promptly through the Python Land contact form if you suspect unauthorised access or another security issue.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account until you notify us, except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise.

We may require a password reset, invalidate sessions, or temporarily restrict an account where reasonably necessary to protect users or the Service.

5. Free, subscription, and legacy access

Free access includes all published courses and lessons, with advertising and lower usage limits. A free account can save progress and participate in interactive features. An active Certificate subscription adds eligibility for verified course-completion certificates, removes Python Land advertising, and provides higher runner limits. Guided adds learner-facing AI help. Paid features remain subject to fair-use and technical limits displayed or enforced by the Service.

Eligible customers from the legacy Python Land site receive course-specific access to the courses associated with their completed legacy purchases. Legacy access is personal, non-transferable, and does not automatically include Certificate, Guided, or future subscription-only benefits. If migration records are incomplete, we may request reasonable proof of purchase before correcting access.

6. Subscription billing and Paddle

New subscriptions are sold by Paddle, Python Land's authorised reseller and merchant of record. The price, billing interval, tax-inclusive total where applicable, currency, and renewal terms are shown during checkout. By completing checkout, you also enter an agreement with Paddle under its Buyer Terms.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically for the selected monthly or yearly period until cancelled.
  • Paddle charges the payment method associated with the subscription and provides the invoice or receipt.
  • If payment fails, Paddle may retry it. Access may continue during a limited dunning period and may be paused or ended if payment remains unsuccessful.
  • You can cancel through your Python Land account or the Paddle buyer portal. Unless checkout or mandatory law says otherwise, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period and prevents the next renewal.
  • We or Paddle may change subscription prices. Required advance notice and consent will be provided under applicable law; you may cancel before a new price applies.

7. Refunds and withdrawal rights

Refunds are described in our Refunds Policy and Paddle's Refund Policy. Nothing in either policy limits non-waivable consumer rights, including any statutory withdrawal, conformity, repair, replacement, price-reduction, or refund right that applies in your country.

8. Course content and intellectual property

Python Land and its licensors own the Service, course text, exercises, tests, graphics, videos, software, branding, and other supplied materials, except where stated otherwise. Subject to these Terms and applicable payment, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable licence to access and use those materials for your own learning.

You may not, without permission:

  • Republish, sell, licence, or distribute substantial course materials.
  • Share paid access, tests, solutions, or account credentials with others.
  • Systematically download, scrape, reproduce, translate, or create a competing dataset or course from the materials.
  • Remove copyright, trademark, attribution, or rights notices.

Statutory quotation, criticism, research, accessibility, interoperability, and other non-waivable exceptions remain unaffected.

9. Your code and saved content

You retain any rights you have in code and other content you submit. You grant Python Land a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, execute, transmit, display back to you, and create technical backups of that content only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, support, and improve the Service.

Code submissions, outputs, grading results, and saved workspaces may be stored with your account. Runner environments are temporary and not a backup service. Do not submit secrets, production credentials, confidential material, malicious code, unlawfully held data, or content that infringes another person's rights. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to content you submit.

10. Acceptable use

You must not use the Service to:

  • Break the law, violate rights, harass, threaten, deceive, or facilitate harm.
  • Develop, test, store, or distribute malware, ransomware, credential theft, destructive payloads, or unauthorised surveillance.
  • Attack, probe, scan, overload, mine cryptocurrency on, or gain unauthorised access to Python Land or any third-party system.
  • Circumvent access controls, paywalls, runner isolation, usage limits, grading rules, rate limits, or security measures.
  • Use automated means to scrape course content, create accounts, generate artificial ad traffic, or consume disproportionate resources without written permission.
  • Interfere with other users or the operation and integrity of the Service.

Good-faith security research must stop when personal data, service disruption, or access beyond your own account becomes possible. Report the issue privately through the Python Land contact form and allow reasonable time for investigation before disclosure.

11. Availability, limits, and changes

The Service may be unavailable for maintenance, security incidents, provider outages, capacity limits, or events outside our reasonable control. Runner, AI, storage, and similar resource-intensive features are subject to per-request, daily, technical, and fair-use limits. We may adjust reasonable limits to maintain security, performance, and service sustainability.

We may release preview or beta features that are incomplete and may change or be withdrawn. We do not promise permanent availability of any free feature.

12. Third-party services and links

The Service may depend on or link to Paddle, Google, embedded media providers, open source software, and other third parties. Their products and sites are governed by their own terms and policies. Python Land is not responsible for third-party content or services beyond the extent required by law.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals but does not automatically delete your Python Land account or data. Requesting account deletion locks access and cancels any subscription immediately, followed by a seven-day recovery period before permanent erasure. Neither cancellation nor account deletion automatically creates a refund, without limiting mandatory withdrawal, refund, or defect-remedy rights.

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access where we reasonably believe you materially breached these Terms, created a security or legal risk, failed to pay, abused resources, or used the Service fraudulently. Where appropriate and legally permitted, we will give notice and a reasonable chance to remedy the issue. We may act immediately when needed to prevent harm, comply with law or provider requirements, or protect an investigation.

On termination, the licence to use the Service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including payment obligations, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, and dispute terms—continue to apply. Data is handled under the Privacy Policy.

14. Disclaimers

Python Land is an educational service, not professional, legal, financial, security, or employment advice. Examples may be simplified and software ecosystems change. You are responsible for reviewing, testing, securing, and backing up code before using it outside the learning environment.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, that every defect will be corrected, or that use will achieve a particular result. Nothing here excludes a warranty or remedy that cannot legally be excluded.

15. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable.

Subject to the previous paragraph and to mandatory consumer law, Python Land will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings, or data arising from use of the Service. For paid use, aggregate liability arising from the Service will not exceed [COUNSEL TO SET LIABILITY CAP, FOR EXAMPLE FEES PAID FOR THE RELEVANT SERVICE DURING THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS]. For free use, aggregate liability will not exceed [FREE-SERVICE CAP], unless law requires otherwise.

16. Business users

If you use the Service primarily for business purposes, you will indemnify Python Land against third-party claims and reasonable costs caused by your unlawful content, misuse of the Service, or material breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law. This section does not apply to consumers acting wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft, or profession.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. The competent courts of the Netherlands have jurisdiction, except that consumers retain the benefit of mandatory laws and the right to bring proceedings in the courts available to them under applicable consumer law. Before filing a claim, please use the Python Land contact form so we can try to resolve the issue informally. Consumers may also use any statutory out-of-court dispute-resolution process available to them.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms for legal, security, operational, or product reasons. We will post the new version and update the date above. For material changes affecting existing paid users, we will provide notice and obtain consent where required by law. If you do not accept a future change, you may stop using the Service and cancel before the change applies to the next subscription period.

19. General terms

If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the extent necessary and the remaining provisions continue. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms or your account without our permission; we may transfer them as part of a business reorganisation or sale, subject to applicable law. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, Refunds Policy, checkout disclosures, and any terms expressly incorporated by reference form the agreement between you and Python Land about the Service.
